Drought

THERE'S DROUGHT ABOUT!

The National Integrated Drought Information System (NIDIS) just launched a new website to keep us informed about drought -- current conditions, impacts and forecasts.

http://www.drought.gov/portal/server.pt

We CoCoRaHS volunteers will play several important roles in NIDIS. Our data are used to help monitor both emerging and improving drought conditions and are especially important in showing how moisture is varying within our individual counties. We will be encouraged to report drought impacts within our counties and communities. Also, we can help share information about drought conditions, preparation and mitigation.

Let others know about this new website. And keep sending in your precipitation reports -- rain or shine! Thanks so much.

DROUGHT . . . "HOW DRY I AM!"

From time to time drought visits many areas of the country.  For some places this is just part of the natural precipitation cycle, whereas for others this is a rarely seen event. As a CoCoRaHS observer you play an important role in helping the nation know where rain has fallen over a period of time and where it hasn’t.  We thank you for your observations!

More information on drought can be found at NOAA’s Drought Information Center http://www.drought.noaa.gov/ and by viewing the National Drought Monitor http://www.drought.unl.edu/dm/monitor.html which is updated weekly. Both sites are a great way to learn and stay informed about drought.
