Station Number: NM-ED-23
Station Name: Carlsbad 2.1 NNW
Report Date: 4/24/2025
Submitted: 4/24/2025 10:11 AM
Scale Bar: Severely Dry
Description:
Our ongoing extreme to severe drought continues in spite of the recent heavy rains that dropped 1,14" of precipitation a couple of weeks ago at my station. My year-to-date total stands at 1.46", which is 80% of normal. My water year-to-date total is 2.23", which is 53% of normal.

Last year my yearly precipitation total was 5.20", 2023 was 7.72" and 2022 was 11.54". 2021 saw 16.98" which was the last year that my yearly precipitation total was above average.

With the recent rains, some grasses are starting to green up, but overall, rangelands are extremely parched.

Widespread blinding dust storms dropping the visibility down to zero have hammered the area since February, along with several haboobs such as the one that moved in Carlsbad yesterday afternoon. Last photo.
