FIRE - With the additional rains last week we can report that the FIRE hazard has been reduced to LOW in our area. ENERGY - This too is tracking normal, as our highs and lows have been right at the normal temperatures. It’s Summer in Florida, so the AC is working as usual. GENERAL - It looks, at least for June and the next 10 days forecast, that we have returned to our Afternoon/Evening Showers and Thunder Storms. Each day is predicted to have PM precipitation, not the whole area by T-Storms and showers. Let’s hope is is true.  View

Well our NWS's extended forecast had this area likely getting several days of rain but as the week progressed our forecast rains steadily diminished. While significant rains did occur not too far away and mostly all around us, only 0.10" fell here. At present the ground has dried up quite a bit but once again, thanks to the Canadian wildfires and the many days with smoke shrouded skies, drying conditions have been noticeably lessened. Waterways are continuing to drop and are now just below their normal levels. Without a doubt soil conditions have deteriorated to mildly dry with more drying likely on the way. Area lawns are already showing some signs of stress and will need watering soon enough. Trees and shrubs still look pretty good while the invasive Morrow's Honeysuckles are thriving, of course. There was a mama turkey the other day trailing an amazing dozen chicks. Hopefully they stay away from my garden as they get bigger. And the pee wee/flycatchers nesting above my front door are bound and determined to have a successful hatch. They are super shy but from our feeder, whenever I sit on my porch, they naggingly chirp, clearly telling me to get away from their nest. I tell them that maybe they shouldn't have built a nest there in the first place. And then I get up and move. Oh well, a couple few weeks and they'll be on their way.  View

June 7-13, 2025 Brignac, Louisiana Saturday marked an uncomfortable start to the summer, with dry weather conditions causing road construction to produce a significant amount of dust. Sunday was even more challenging, with heat indices soaring above 110 degrees. However, the rain that fell on Monday morning cleared the dust and provided a refreshing drink to everything. More midweek rain showers nourished my flower beds, giving them a much-needed soaking. The rest of the week brought continued rain, which effectively halted road work for the week. Fortunately, the entire construction site drains exceptionally well. This week has witnessed the most rainy days in a week since March, with four days of rainfall. At the bird feeder, local native birds diligently search for their next meals. Sparrows dominate the bird population, followed by cardinals, brown-headed cowbirds, doves, blue jays, wrens, chickadees, titmice, and an occasional blackbird.  View

Even though early June precipitation was above normal, the soil has quickly dried out. There were a few episodes of blowing dust this week. No rain is expected all next week with hot above normal temperatures continuing. Plants are healthy for now due to the early June rain. Fire danger is increasing due to the low humidity, dryness, and increase in wind expected next week. Our water supply is adequate.  View

After alsmost three days of no rain, it returned overnight with a heavy shower that produced almost half an inch. The ground is still saturated. I have not had to water my garden in the first month it has been planted. The puddles have returned as noted in my picture. The previous couple days of weather were great, being able to get outside and tend to plants and go for walks. That will likely subside with the threat of rain over the weekend.  View

Water Supply & Quality
With 1.09” of rain this week conditions remain near normal although leaning towards mildly wet. The Pascoag Reservoir remains at 9’2” and is slightly overflowing the spillway. Yellow water lilies bloomed near the state boat ramp earlier this week but are relatively few in number compared to previous years. We have also yet to see any turtles there which is odd. For many years we would see 15-20 turtles sunning themselves on rocks and fallen trees, but last year we would see 3-4 at most and this year there are none. With the lower amount of water lilies it makes me wonder what has changed. Did something change 2 years ago that is affecting water quality upstream on Brandy Brook? The lawn continues to grow at a rapid pace for mid June, typically it would be slowing down by down. Local song birds continue their happy chatter and the blue heron is a frequent sight on the lake. Clear River water district remains on an odd/even day outdoor water use restriction but hopefully will be lifting that later this summer when water use needs go down. George Washington state park continues to post a Low fire danger.  View
