Fire danger is probably moderate, although the sign at the fire station still says low - likely no one is in charge of it. Grass heads are turning white, some patches of mown lawn are also looking dry. Not seeing baby birds yet, but flies and snakes seem to be plentiful. Hayfever season continues, although less after the hot spell. The creek is down, and weeds are prospering. Our grapevine is threatening to take over. The hot spell hastened ripening of strawberries, which means that many berries ripened while still somewhat small. The native trailing blackberry looks to have a good crop, and the berries are starting to turn red. Gardens really need regular water, soil dries out fairly quickly. Stinging neetles have reached 6 feet, and foxglove is blooming. Bees of many sorts are arounds, and so are ants. There are also slugs, but they seem less than other years.
