I do not have a hail pad. (Hail is extremely rare here!)
I have an enormous amount of green maple leaves on the ground (from one tree I have gathered two large garbage bags so far), my garden plants have a lot of shredding (tomato plants appear stripped). I looked at street parked cars this morning and I did not see any dents (just lots of green leaves stuck to the cars).
I do not know how to estimate whether there was more rain than hail; there was .37" of rain in my gauge this morning, but I don't know how much of that was actually rain vs. melted hail, and it was too hard to see what was what when the storm was actually in progress.
As far as the angle the hail fell, I understand that we had up to 80 mph winds here during portions of the storm, but when I was able to see the hail falling, it looked like it was falling straight down, and HARD. |
